Peppernuts Gingerbread Buttons are a traditional holiday cookie flavoured with black pepper and warm spices. They are small, crispy, and flavorful, making them the ideal addition to any holiday cookie platter.
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 egg
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Time Needed
- Prep Time: 20 minutes
- Cook Time: 10 minutes
- Total Time: 30 minutes
Instructions
- Cream butter and brown sugar together in a large mixing bowl until light and fluffy.
- Mix in the molasses and egg until thoroughly combined.
- Whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and black pepper in a separate bowl.
- Stir the dry ingredients into the butter mixture until well combined.
- Refrigerate dough for 1 hour, or until firm.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and place them on a baking sheet that has been greased.
- 10-12 minutes, or until lightly browned.
- Cool for 2 minutes on the baking sheet before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
