Frosted Ginger Cookies Recipe

These frosted ginger cookies have just the right amount of spice and sweetness. The sweetness of the molasses and frosting balances the warm flavours of cinnamon, ginger, and cloves.

Ingredients

Time Needed

  • Prep Time: 20 minutes
  • Cook Time: 15 minutes
  • Total Time: 35 minutes

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Cream together the butter and brown sugar in a large mixing bowl until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in the molasses and egg.
  • Combine the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, ginger and cloves in a separate bowl.
  • Add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture gradually, mixing until just combined.
  • Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and coat with granulated sugar.
  • Place the balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, about 2 inches apart.
  • Preheat the oven to 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  • Allow cookies to cool for a few minutes on the baking sheet before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • To make the icing, whisk together confectioners' sugar and water in a small bowl.
  • Drizzle the icing over the cooled cookies and set aside until ready to serve.
