Spiced Gingerbread Cookies Recipe
These spiced gingerbread cookies are a traditional holiday treat ideal for sharing with friends and family. Warm spices like cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and nutmeg give these cookies a rich, complex flavour that goes great with a cup of hot cocoa or your favourite holiday beverage.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 1/2 tsp ground ginger
- 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp ground cloves
- 1 egg
Time Needed
- Prep Time: 20 minutes
- Cook Time: 10 minutes
- Total Time: 30 minutes
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cream the butter and brown sugar together in a large mixing bowl until fluffy.
- Incorporate the molasses and egg.
- Whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, ginger, cloves and nutmeg in a separate bowl.
- Stir the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until completely combined.
- Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving about 2 inches between cookies.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are firm but the centres are soft.
- Remove from the oven and cool for a few minutes on the baking sheet before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
