Snowflake Sugar Cookies Recipe

These Snowflake Sugar Cookies are a festive and delicious holiday treat. The dough is simple to work with, and the cookies turn out soft and chewy. The blue glaze adds a splash of colour as well as a sweet finish.

Ingredients

1 cup granulated sugar
Blue food coloring
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 cup milk
1 cup unsalted butter, room temp
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1-2 tbsp water
Two large eggs
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup powdered sugar
3 cups all-purpose flour

Instructions

Cream the butter and granulated sugar together in a large mixing bowl until light and fluffy.
Beat in the eggs and vanilla extract until well combined.
Whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl.
Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients gradually, mixing until just combined.
Mix in the milk until the dough comes together.
Make two equal parts of dough and shape each into a disc.
Wrap the discs in plastic wrap and place them in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C) and prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Roll out one disc of dough to a thickness of about 1/4 inch on a lightly floured surface.

Cut out snowflake-shaped cookies with cookie cutters and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
Repeat with the remaining dough disc.
Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
Remove the cookies from the oven and cool for 5 minutes on the baking sheet before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
In a small mixing bowl, combine the powdered sugar and water until smooth.
Add blue food coloring to the glaze until the desired color is achieved.
Drizzle the glaze over the cooled cookies and set aside until ready to serve.
