Gingerbread Cookies Recipe

Gingerbread cookies are a traditional Christmas treat. They are ideal for snacking, decorating, or giving as gifts due to the combination of warm spices and rich molasses.

Ingredients

  • Prep Time: 30 minutes
  • Cook Time: 12 minutes
  • Total Time: 42 minutes

Instructions

  • Whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon and cloves in a medium mixing bowl.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar until smooth.
  • Stir in the egg, then the molasses and vanilla.
  • Stir in the dry ingredients gradually until the dough comes together.
  • Wrap each half of the dough in plastic wrap and chill for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (180 degrees Celsius).
  • Roll out one half of the dough to a thickness of about 1/4 inch on a lightly floured surface.
  • (6 mm).
  • Using cookie cutters, cut out desired shapes and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are firm and the centres are soft and puffy.
  • Repeat with the remaining dough, re-rolling and cutting scraps until all of it is gone.
  • Allow the cookies to cool for 5 minutes on the baking sheet before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
