Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (180 degrees Celsius).
  • In a medium mixing bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda and salt.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until creamy.
  • Mix in the egg and vanilla extract until thoroughly combined.
  • Mix in the dry ingredients gradually until just combined.
  • Incorporate the chocolate chips.
  • Drop the dough by tablespoonfuls onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  • Bake the cookies for 12-15 minutes, or until they are set and slightly firm to the touch.
  • Allow the cookies to cool completely on a wire rack.
  • In a medium mixing bowl, cream the butter until smooth.
  • Mix in the confectioners' sugar, milk, and vanilla extract gradually until smooth and creamy.
  • Divide the frosting into two bowls and color with a few drops of red and green food coloring to achieve the desired shades.
  • Frost the cooled cookies with the colored frosting, making designs and patterns with a knife or pastry bag as desired.
